This piece has been and continues to be on display in my private showcase. As stated in the title this Aquamarine was found in Akwanga, Nasarawa State Nigeria. I still have the original photos of the crystal being held by Nigerian man who sold it to me, (available upon request). I MIGHT still have the original import papers from Nigeria. This is a fine example of the Akwanga locality. By weight it is the largest gemmy Aquamarine from the region that I've seen available. Unfortunately most of them get cut or broken into segments to be sold as rough.. This crystal weighs 25.6 Grams / 128 carats and measures 47.68mm x 18.5mm x 14.86mm. It has beautiful dimensions and excellent form. The body has some skinny Second Order Prism Faces that neighbor the not-so-skinny faces, giving the crystal a nice "semi" Di-hexagonal appearance. The Gradient style color zoning of this Beryl adds to its beauty. This Aquamarine absolutely holds the essence of Gaia's oceans within it. The top portion of this aquamarine is a light blue, reminiscent of clean and clear water. Nearing the bottom region of this crystal, the color deepens to a darker blue which is reminiscent of deep sea waters. The bottom of the crystal shows what looks like an ocean floor / beach of sand mixed with water, (continue reading to hear more about this). The termination is complete with bevels. There's some light etching on top of the c-axis termination as well as on the prism faces. The c axis is open on the top, but not on the bottom. The bottom appears to have an even cleave that may be healed with a glassy luster? Near the bottom of the body, A very thin layer of iron and other inclusion reside at about 1.4mm beneath the outer skin of the crystal. This really adds character. Visually, this resembles a marbled lodolite inclusion. Other iron inclusions can be found inside of the crystal. These inclusions appear to be sealed inside of the Aquamarine itself. There is no damage; Only a few extremely shallow concoidal fleabites / contact. This Aquamarine is a fine example of how color, clarity, luster and uniqueness can all work in unison to create an iconic crystal with such character. Please study the photos and the fb videos.
