This Gem Green Aquamarine crystal was discovered in Marambaia Brazil, before 1960. It weighs 54.7 grams / 273.5 carats and measures 78.51mm x 19.05mm x 17.47mm. It has phenomenal clarity and a light mint green color that I find highly attractive. This color type of gem beryl is highly sought after. The top termination has a series of negative crystals or hollow tube growths that extend a few millimeters beneath the termination. These tubes light up with the most dazzling cat's eye effect I've seen in a large beryl crystal. The Majority of this crystal has a reflective glassy luster. Toward the bottom there are some etched areas that have a sub-vitreous / greasy luster. The top termination is excellent with a nice open C-axis. The termination faces and bevels have a classic old-school etched finish. The bottom of the crystal is not terminated, however it appears to be partially healed. The simple concoidal dips on the bottom appear to be naturally healed over with a thin frosted skin that isn't etched. This Specimen is not being sold as Gem Rough. It is a distinguished Historical Specimen that should be preserved. The Crystal was purchased by Dr. Norman O. Cappel of West Chester Pennsylvania in 1960 when he took a buying trip to Idar Oberstein. The following is copied from findagrave.com in regards to Dr. Cappel's memorial. "Dr. Norman O Cappel left this existence on April 12, 2002. He was first and foremost a kind, gentle man. Secondly, he was a scientist in the true sense of the word. Not only did he build two successful companies, but he was also a pioneer in the field of antibodies. He was a World Traveler and Collector. His jade and gem collections were unequaled." This Beryl crystal was purchased privately and directly from Norman's family in early 2017. All remaining pieces from his estate have since been moved into private collections. Historically this crystal has been kept solely in private collections since Idar Oberstein 1960. This is the first time it has been made available to the public.
